Call tracking lets you measure which marketing channels, campaigns, or keywords are driving inbound phone calls to your business. In Thailand, most call tracking is implemented using dynamic number insertion (DNI), where a unique phone number is swapped in for each visitor based on the source that brought them to the site. This makes it possible to attribute calls to specific campaigns in the same way you would attribute form submissions or purchases.

What is dynamic number insertion?

Dynamic number insertion works by placing a JavaScript snippet on your website. When a visitor arrives, the script identifies the traffic source (such as a Google Ads campaign or organic search) and replaces the phone number displayed on the page with a unique tracking number assigned to that source. When the visitor calls that number, the call tracking platform records the call and attributes it to the correct campaign. The real business phone number receives the forwarded call, so no calls are missed.

Does call tracking work with GA4?

Yes. Most DNI-based call tracking platforms can push call events directly into GA4 as custom events, in the same way that a form submission or button click is recorded. This allows call conversions to appear in GA4 reports alongside other conversion types and makes it possible to include calls in attribution modelling. Google Ads call extensions record calls directly as conversions within the Google Ads interface and can be imported into GA4 as well.

What should you consider when setting up call tracking in Thailand?

Availability of Thai local numbers is the most important practical consideration: not all international platforms offer a sufficient pool of Thai numbers for DNI. You should also check whether the platform supports Thai caller ID display, since calls from unrecognised international numbers have lower answer rates in Thailand. For businesses tracking both Thai-language and English-language audiences, separate tracking pools may be needed if the two audiences are being sent to different landing pages.
