Overview

Xplore Asia is an international recruitment organisation that helps people from Western countries, particularly the United States and the United Kingdom, find opportunities to teach English across Asia. Their programmes place teachers in destinations including Thailand, Vietnam, and Japan.

Phoenix Media partnered with Xplore Asia to develop a digital campaign focused on generating qualified applications from individuals actively researching teaching opportunities abroad.

The Challenge

Xplore Asia initially approached Phoenix Media seeking SEO support to increase organic visibility and begin generating their own leads online. At the time, most applications came through existing channels and referrals, and the company wanted a more predictable pipeline of international candidates.

However, the teaching abroad market is highly competitive and seasonal, with many organisations targeting similar audiences across multiple countries. As Xplore Asia had not previously run digital marketing campaigns, there was little historical data to guide targeting or messaging.

The Approach

Although the client initially requested SEO support, we recommended starting with a Google Ads campaign to quickly test search demand and identify the most responsive markets and keywords.

Campaigns were structured by both user location and destination country, allowing budgets to be adjusted based on performance. We also created dedicated landing pages tailored to each destination to improve conversion rates and better match search intent.

Remarketing campaigns were also launched using the client's existing social media content to re-engage visitors who had shown interest but had not yet submitted an enquiry.

The Results

Early results exceeded expectations, with applications generated at well under the initial target cost per lead. Performance varied by country and keyword group, so budgets were adjusted regularly to prioritise the best-performing markets.

Over two years, the campaign has generated over 6,000 applications, helping Xplore Asia build a consistent pipeline of candidates. Following the initial success, the client increased their advertising budget and expanded campaigns into additional regions. The campaign continues to run today and remains an important part of their recruitment strategy.
